Ashleyhay near Wirksworth, with its rolling hills and narrow lanes, is an area of Derbyshire I have painted more than any other. I have passed this subject numerous times, but on this occasion I was struck by the amount of berries on the elder tree, sunlit against the subtle colours of the distant hills.
